Shin Furuya

Vice President, Responsible Investment Research | Engagement Specialist

Shin Furuya joined Domini in 2006. He is a member of the Domini Funds Investment Committee, which is responsible for the review and approval of each company proposed by the Research Team as eligible for investment.  In addition, he contributes to the Domini Funds research process through his development and review of our industry-specific key performance indicators, which are the cornerstone to Domini’s research process, as well as advising and coordinating on the overall research process and approach. Further, as the Engagement Specialist, Mr. Furuya actively engages with companies, civil society organizations as well as governments on wide-range of thematic and sector-specific issues.  Prior to his current role, Mr. Furuya served as a lead research analyst conducting research on companies, as well as, training and supervising analysts and associates.

In addition, Mr. Furuya serves as the lead research analyst for Nia Global Solutions, Domini’s new separately managed account program.  He is responsible for identifying new, innovative companies as well as making recommendations for the selection of companies for Nia’s portfolio.  Shin is also a member of Nia’s Portfolio Review Committee.

Prior to joining Domini, Mr. Furuya was a research analyst for the Investor Responsibility Research Center as well as for the Institutional Shareholder Services where he led the custom research projects as the lead researcher.  He also worked as the national coordinator for the Economic Relations and Human Rights Program and the Refugee Program at Amnesty International Japan where he managed two national programs.

Mr. Furuya is a member of the advisory board of the EIRIS Conflict Risk Network, a network of over 80 institutional investors, and an advisory consultant for T&D Asset Management, an asset management division of a leading insurance group in Japan focused on ESG integration and research strategies.  In 2015, Shin was named among the ‘Most Influential Environmental Investors’ by the Journal of Environmental Investing.

Mr. Furuya holds a B.A. in political science and international studies from the University of Oregon, an M.A. in international relations with a focus on global markets and politics, and a certificate of advanced studies in environmental dispute resolution from the Maxwell School of Citizenship & Public Affairs, Syracuse University.
