Just Eat Takeaway

Held in the Domini International Opportunities Fund portfolio.

As the gig economy grows, food delivery drivers continue to face serious challenges—especially wage theft and unsafe conditions on the roads. Just Eat Takeaway is working to address these issues. The Netherlands-based company, which owns several food delivery websites and apps internationally, is one of the first companies of this type to use a sustainable employment model for its European and Israeli markets. Delivery drivers are brought on as company employees, rather than independent contractors. i It’s a crucial transition that could help set the stage for improved working conditions in the broader gig economy. Including delivery drivers on Just Easy Takeaway’s payroll provides them with benefits like minimum pay, workplace pensions, and safety training. ii Better labor practices, such as these, are key to safer and more stable working conditions.
